Sean,

A look in Hysys Operations Guide manual will clarify your unknowns. The manual doesn't come with the software, but a legitimate user can download it from Aspentech website. Of course you need to be registered to be able to do that.
I am assuming that people posting questions here are reading the manuals first. In a lot of cases it seams I am wrong. Nobody can replace individual study, regardless of experience and/or training.

Good Luck

Sean,

HYSYS has a special features detecting the degree of freedom. If you provide sufficient inputs (in Blue) and make zero degree of freedom, other parameter will be calculated (in Black). So... try it out yourself.

Dear,
Why don't you try PipeSys extension in Hysys for a detailed modelling of the pipeline and to understand the hydraulics. For pipe segment modeling you refer to Aspen Tech's Hysys Unit Operations Guide and for PipeSys you can get the tutorials from aspentech website.
