Hi all,

I'm looking for assistance regarding the relevant standards that govern the quality of water that we feed to high pressure and low pressure boilers as well as for cooling towers.

Our water treatment vendor simply indicates that there are ASME standards, but would not provide which code or codes are being used for reference.

For example, they say that the sodium concentration in boilers should be less than 10 ppb, but they won't say which ASME code this requirement came from. Naturally, different vendors have indicated different specifications as some of them prefer to be more conservative... another example is the TSS in the cooling water - some vendors say that the TSS should be less than 20 ppm, while others say 35 ppm.

If there is a industry best practice or an ASME code, where can i find it?

thanks a lot...
Sophia

Sophie,

I am not sure about ASME standards for BFW quality but there is an American association called as 'American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) which prescribes BFW quality for various preesure ranges for boilers.

Here is the link which provides some BFW norms as prescribed by ABMA:

http://www.banksengi...om/blrwater.htm

Another link for BFW characteristics is as below:

http://www.lenntech....-feed-water.htm

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.
