Dear Forum,
Need your advice.

I have 24" piping spool that contains 24" orifice flange. We will hydrotest the piping package as per code.

My question : if later on we will change the orifice plate, do we need to re-hydotest the pipe spool?

thanks,
MW

If you're testing through the orifice assembly, then I think it best to remove the plate and substitute a spacer. A benefit of doing it this way is that draining will be easier and more likely complete.

If possible try to minimize items i.e. internal, control valves, etc which already hydrotested during fabrication stage. Minimize potential of unwanted damage of to these item .

I understand

specially fabricated attachment; hydro test spools are employed/maintained at many refineries either at their workshops or through their service vendors; being a task repeated many a times therefore cost savings/ still ensuring requirement's fulfillment.
Hope this proves helping.

Hydrostatic test is mandatory as per code requirement , usually such spool or line which contain flow meter, orifice and control valve etc , such items a need to be removed prior to hydrotest and line shall be tested with dummy fabricated spool .

You can avoid removing control valves provided that each side of the valve to be considered as boundary of a test package and blinded during hydrotest.
