Dear All.

What would be the basis of self regulating pressure valve selection? Can we select Self regulating rather than Control valve? Does this base only at fixed downstream pressure?

Hi,

I have used self regulating PCVs and I have never liked them. They have always given me trouble with the drift observed from the setpoint. This is particularly true if there is a shift in the upstream pressure from what was specified in the self regulating PCV specification. Self regulating PCVs are designed to work for a very narrow range of delta P and unless your application does not provide you a very steady upstream pressure as specified in the specification you are likely to get fluctuations in your downstream pressure. For critical pressure control applications I certainly would not consider them. The use of self regulating PCVs is restricted to non-critical applications and where precise pressure control is not mandated.

Hope this experience helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

I agree with Ankur.

A self regulating valve will create headaches if not used in appropriate conditions. This is due to it having a very narrow pressure inlet - as well as a delta pressure - range. But you may use it for an operation that does not require a very precise pressure setting / flow rate setting.

Thank you so much. I am clear now.
