Hi

I have been searching for the heat of formation of Ammonium carbamate so that I can calculate the heat of reaction for the production of Ammonium Carbamate.

I have found two separate sources that state the delta Hf to be -151.88 kj/mol and -647.28 kJ/mol.
The first value comes from a 1927 journal on experimentational determination of the heat of formation of AC whilst the second was found on a random forum so cant trust it.

I need this information for the design of a Urea synthesis plant for my final year design project.

Any help would be fantastic?

Hi DAMON ,

Enthalpy of Formation:

-647279 J/mol

with reference:
Bernard,M.A.; Borel,M.-M.; BSCFAS; Bull.Soc.Chim.Fr.; FR; 1968; 2362-2366.

That should be fairly easy for calculation based on heat of formation values for individual compounds (NH3, CO2), and these are readily available in university textbooks.
