transient cooling of a batch tank
Kern's book on Heat Transfer shows computing the time to cool a tank using an external cooler, but it does not account for a concurrent heat source.

I have seen, but can't recall an alternative method (Max Jakob? or Carslaw and Jaeger?) which accounts for a constant energy load added (reaction or mechanical) during the cool down. If someone would share the method I would be most grateful.

Or how would one modify the kern computation to accomplish the same thing?

Thank you for your time

Your process, in that case, is not transient but constant heat flux process. You may have something in Kern for this. Refer to any standard text book, for ex. JP Holman, Incropera&Dewitt etc, otherwise.

Kern has equations where mass is added continuously to the tank. For those equations if there is a corresponding heat of solution, he tells how to modify the equations to correct for this. Maybe that will give you insight to your problem. If not, Kern does a fair job of showing how the equations were derived. He also gives the original literature references. Those may have more details. These should aid you to start from scratch and derive an equation for your specific case.
