Dear all,

I am working the LPG caustic wash revamp. The existing caustic wash drum is designed for 5,100 bpd LPG. The outlet will be sent to LPG Merox column. Caustic concentration is about 20 w%.

Now, the new conditions are: LPG feed is increased to 10,000 bpd, and keep caustic concentration to 20 w%.

My questions are:

1. what should I do to know the existing caustic wash drum is OK or not for the new capacity?
2. the same question for LPG Merox column

Thanks for your help!

Answer to your each questions are as below:

1. what should I do to know the existing caustic wash drum is OK or not for the new capacity?
Ans.: With your existing caustic wash drum you will face problem of high carry over of caustic with LPG & another problem of frequent change out requirement of spent caustic. It is advisable to go for review of caustic wash drum sizing with respect to your new revised feed flow.
2. the same question for LPG Merox column
Ans.: I hope you are going to maintain C/H ratio of 4 in your merox column. According to that you will required to find your new caustic flow. This flow rate should be permissible for that column efficient operation.
