Please help me to find the reliable method to estimate PSV set pressure, relieving temperature and molecular weight of relieving straem.
You make me so appreciated if post me your sugeests as soon as possible.
Warmest regards.

NPTNPTNPT,
Without specifying your requirement you cannot get the proper response. For example, it is not specified if the PSV is in atmospheric/low pressure application or high pressure one.

Please give all our members a fair and reasonable opportunity to help you in this important proposal. Submit ALL your basic data regarding this relief application.
I have repeated the following advice many times in the past – and I will do so again: STICK TO THE BASIC SCOPE. You are encharged with protecting a storage tank (or pressure vessel) in order to save it and the humans who may find themselves in the area should relief emission be required. In order to confront that problem, you MUST FURNISH THE MAWP AND MAWV of the subject vessel. Those are the basic and principal parameters that set the procedure of protecting that vessel. If you don’t have those values (which is the usual case), then you must generate them or obtain them.
How can you claim to protect a vessel when you can’t define WHAT you are protecting it from? You must define the limits of your vessel with respect to internal and external pressures. What Fallah is requesting is not only reasonable, it is vital for the proper and accurate design of such an important item.
Please help yourself and the Forum by furnishing what Fallah requests. This will lead to a successful resolution to your query.

Hi everyone. My case is quite similar to NPTNPTNPT but i wil be more specific with my question.
i need to size a PSV for a diesel storage vessel as regards vapour and liquid relief. The designed pressure for the vessel is 3 barg. My problem actually lies in determining the Releif valve set pressure and back pressure values. Also, is it right for me to take my accumulation as 10% for liquid relief and 21% for vapor relief?

Hi,
You are setting the pressure for a pressure vessel. The amount of maximum accumulation pressure depends on the type of contingency not the relieving state. Please try to study API 520/521 carefully at first, and then come back here with your specific questions...

The relief valve cannot be set at more than the MAWP of 3 barg. I typically choose RV set pressures at the same value as the MAWP. Per API 520/521, accumulation is 10% for all relieving cases except external fire, where it is 21%. Backpressure would have to be calculated based on the maximum capacity of the relief valve and the hydraulics in the discharge line.
