Hi Everyone,

We are designing a foam fire production system for a fuel oil tank farm per NFPA code. My questions are:
1. The minium application rates specified on the NFPA 11 tables are foam solution rate (without the induced air) or foam rate (with induced air)?
2. Should The foam sprinkler nozzles be installed on the ground or an elevation higher than the top of tank?

Thank you in advance

Shan

HI SHAN,
ANSWER OF UR 2nd QUES.,AS I KNOW IN MY PLANT FOAM CHAMBER IS INSTALLED ON TOP OF THE TANK AND SURROUNDING OF TANK FARM DYKE (BASIN) i.e. ON THE TANKFARM DYKE (BASIN) WALL OTHER FOAM CHAMBERS ARE INSTALLED, FOAMCHAMBER WHICH IS ON TOP OF THE TANK IS HAVING FOAMCHABER GLASS IT WILL BREAK WITH INCOMING MIXER OF FIRE WATER, FOAM AND INDUCED AIR, BUT FOAMCHAMBER WHICH IS INSTALLED ON THE DYKE WALL IS SIMPLE WITHOUT GLASS.
HOPE THIS WILL GIVE U SOME IDEA,SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH
THANKS BEST REGARDS

Thanks Azzu. You meant that foam ring on the top of tank is for the fire of liquid in the tank and foam nozzle on dike wall is for the fire of tank liquid spill on the ground. Right?

Regards

Shan

Dear I assume you trying to estimate foam requirements or the objective is something else!

If you are interested i googled to find the attachments that might make you understand and help for the issue's resolution.I believe.
Hope this proves useful.

Further if you are NFPA member or become member then NFPA11 on-line details are really worth guiding once you critically study these!
