I am currently working on finding the area of a direct contact condenser that currently runs steam and cooling water through it. I need to find the area of the condenser, however I am having a difficult time calculating Q and U. I also have to calculate the area of countercurrent 2pass shell and tube condenser( it was already calculated but 20 years ago so it may need to be double checked). I also need to calculate the area of when the cooling water is equal in both types of condensers.
I know the following:
equation to use: q=U*A*delta T lm

steam
T=90F
flowrate= 8840 lbmole/hr
pressure is constant at 10 psig

Cooling water
T=75 Fand will increase by 10 degrees
flowrate= 2000 gallons/min

unknows: U and Q

I am currently using
1/U=1/hsteam+1/hcooling and then taking the inverse to calculate the U
Q=m*cp*delat T

Thank you! And I will continue my search to see if I can get this right
