Hello everyone,

I am a new member to Cheresources.com.  I have worked in Pilot plants of various types for many years.  Currently I am running a Pilot Plant for a company related to the petrochemical industry.  For the most part we perform reactions on oils and distill olefins and esters.

I am currently hold a bachelors degree and have worked in the chemical industry for the last 13 years.  I am very motivated to attain a Chemical Engineering degree.  With all of my current responsibilities quitting my job to go to school full time will be impossibe.  I was researching recently if any school offers a online degree for distance learning.  I currently live in Illinois.

I was wodering if anyone has any information about any online or mostly online degrees?  Are there any programs for chemistry degree holders to transition to Chemical Engineering bachelors that is online?  I know there are a couple of online masters programs, but that won't help until I attain a bachelors in Chemical Engineering.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Chris.

First of, it might be a little harder to find a good online-only program since a big part of the ChemE program is focused on practical and lab experience.

That being said, you could probably go look up on the ABET website for more information, but as far as I know:

University of North Dakota

Oregon State University

You should contact the specific Universities for more details. I feel like it must be partially online and that some courses must be taken in a in-class environment.

Gabriel MV,

Thanks for responding.  Thank you also for making me take a second look at North Dakota Univeristy.  I overlooked it too soon without really looking at the way they teach the lab portions of the program.  To those not familiar, UND has condensed labs that run in the summer.  If it is a 1 credit hour lab it usually takes 3 days on campus.  If it is a larger 3 credit hour lab it takes up to 2 weeks on campus.  Supposedly they can make arangements for a room on campus during this time.  It seems to be the only option for someone in my situation.

I certainly am excited to start and will use this forum for questions in the future.

I would appreciate it if everyone shared any thoughts or feelings about University of North Dakota.  If there are any graduates of the program, it would be extremly interesting to hear about the quality of the program first hand.

Thanks

Chris
