New Process Engineer: Need For Advice

After I graduated I joined an engineering consultant company few months ago. I need your advice on what I need to be a successful process engineer: what should I focus on? What should I read? ... Etc. Also, I have been assigned, recently, on a project that involves the installation of thermal mass flow meter on some pipelines. What is the working principle of this meter? What equations are used in it?

Thermal mass flow meters are actually becoming more popular with gaseous bio pharma applications. I've seen a few vendors dispay new models at a recent convention in Philadelphia. Basically, you use an electric current (Q) to heat the gas in the meter, measure the difference in temperature at both ends (maybe by use of a thermocouple), and with a programmed heat capactiy the meter calculates mass flow. Q = CpdT dm/dt.
These devices cannot handle much flow and are more practical with dispensing applications. I've had a 40 cfm CO2 meter quoted at $4000, which is a ton of money considering the cheaper alternatives.

Process engineering is a very big discipline and you cannot think to become expert of everything.
More info from your side are needed to help you in obtaining valuable advices.
