How do we calculate Yield for Gas Plants?

We calculate % C3 product recovery as

(C3 in feed - C3 at De-ethanizer bottom)/C3 in feed x 100

Thanks

What are you referring to when saying "yield"?

C3 recovery for De-C2 column is calculated like you wrote.

Thanks for your reply Zauberberg!!

I am talking about NGL component yields. How are they calculated? Yields in chemical reaction is fine, but here I need clarity on yield of NGL components like propane in Gas Plants.

You are correct, the "yield" terminology is not very appropriate. For physical processes "recovery" is much better definition.

NGL components in your case seem to be C3+. For calculating recoveries, you need to divide C3+ in the NGL product from De-ethanizer bottoms, with C3+ content in the feed stream, and multiply the number by 100.

Same is my question? Someone asked me to calculate, I am confused how to calculate or is this really exists? I need help!

A good engineer will ask for clarifications from his supervisor, in case he did not understand what is the task about. This will save everybody's time and efforts. Why don't you simply go back to your superior and ask him what did he mean precisely with regards to the NGL yield? Then come back to us for any further clarifications needed.

Same is my opinion. I just completed my homework.

Going back and asking before confirming myself was not fair. :)

Thanks!!

Zauberberg!!

I got the answer to my question. In Gas Plants the yield is calculated as Amount of product per MMSCF of feed gas. e.g. C3 yield is the C3 recovered per MMSCF of feed gas.

Thanks!
