Hello,
I've been given a project of selecting and designing a shell and tube partial condenser for the effluent process stream leaving a thermal chlorination series. Cooling water is used to partially condense the stream before entry to an HCl recovery column. The process stream contains:
Methyl chloride (0.42 mole fraction)
Methylene chloride (0.21)
HCl (0.32)
the rest are impurities and heavier chlorinated derivatives.
Total flow rate = 274.8 kmol/hr
Inlet T = 111oC
Design Outlet T = 32oC
Inlet P = 4bara
Max Pressure drop = 0.5bara
For the cooling water: inlet T = 22oC, max return T = 35oC, inlet P = 5bara, Max Pressure drop = 2bara
I would just like an opinion on choosing an appropriate type and configuration of exchanger.
Any help would be very much appreciated!!
