Hi All,

I am working on an Oil pipeline project. which is 24" dia,160 km long and have 13 block valve stations. Each block valve has 4" bypass line which consist two isolation valve and one drain valve in between isolation valve.

Please see the attachement.

As per my understanding this drain valve is for draining the trapped volume of oil between two block valves in case of any maintenance of this section of pipeline.

If my understanding is correct, could you please share your knowledge on how to drain this trapped volume as this volume could be high enough ( length between two block valve station may vary from 10 km to 15 km or more and diameter is 24").

If my understanding is not correct, could you please explain the purpose of this drain valve. and what are the possible solutions for draining out the oil between any two block valve stations?

Thanks

Rohit

rohitkush,

To remove the liquid hold-up in the pipeline, pigging operation is to be applied; then that drain valve just will remove the trapped oil between two isolation valves which has low volume...
