Dear Engineers,
I would like to get this straight. Recently, a certain contractor was asked to performed stress analysis on a trunk line from an oil gathering manifolds (OGM) to a Field Processing Facility (FPF). In their analysis/calculations, Contractor's engineers used ASME B31.8 which is predominantly for gas transmission and distribution piping system, as opposed to ASME B31.4 which transports liquid hydrocarbon, slurries, etc.
I am a big fan of HYSYS and PIPSIM, but with no significant knowledge on CEASER ii. Therefore, I could not argue a lot with the contractor but I do see that the contractor might be wrong using ASME B31.8 instead of ASME B31.4 or ASME B31.3 (process piping)
Can one give more explanations and/or references where I can find these code defined stresses, especially with CEASER ii?
Your suggestions/explanations are warmly welcome!
Rgds,
Process Engineer
