Hi,

Is it necessary that all running piping/pipelines to be bonded together ?

or, is it the case that piping/pipeline with non-metallic gaskets in between the flanges shall only be bonded ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Hi,

Even if metallic gasket is used at flange joints, for flammable material an external jump over strip at flange joints is recommended for electrical continuity.

Hi,

If you are pumping a flammable material which is a known static accumulator such as Xylene. Earth Bonding between all flanged pipe work carrying the solvent is best practice and reduces probability of ignition.

However more important still is that the pumping velocity is kept below 1 m/s.

Regards,

To add to @siltonjm

Liquid velocity in the filling line shall be limited to 1m/s, until the filling line is submerged to avoid splashing and turbulence.

Is there any reference standards/codes stating requirement of electrical bonding?

Sir,

Googled it & got some info.

NFPA 77

8.4 Flow in Pipe, Hose, and Tubing.

8.4.1* Metal Piping Systems.
As per section  8.4.1.2, continuity can be maintained by using a conductive gasket, such as a flexible, graphite filled, spiral wound gasket, or by installing a jumper wire across the joint.

Here jumper wire is optional only. CAn we consider this as a general recommendation, for all services?

Hi ,

To me a jumper wire is a safe practice .

At my place we are dealing with flammable material and powder . All flanges are equipped with jumper .

hope this helps
