Hi everybody.

I'm a recently graduated professional in chemical engineering and I'm looking for good advice taking into account your perception about new fields or knowledge areas that could make it more employable for this new generation of engineers.

I resort to this acquired wisdom over the years, seeking to open my mind to new ideas and concepts that may have escaped my perception.

Regards from Colombia,

My advice is not to put so much emphasis on 'new fields or knowledge areas.' Get a job. Learn to do the job well. Expand your knowledge. Improve your skills. Build your experience. Learn from your mistakes. Enjoy your work. Take advantage of opportunities. Satisfy your customers. Maintain high ethics. Be helpful to others. Behave as a professional.

Manuel,

Please search in the web the following Editorial: "The Changing Face of Chemical Engineering Research", of Trans IChemE, Part A, Chemical Engineering Research and Desig, 2005, 83(A1): 1-6.

It´s a excellent reference!!!.

Pilesar is absolutely right. Just jump in. Chemical Engineering applications will continue to change, but Pilesar outlined exactly what will allow you to transcend industries.
