However, the research on composition of petroleum was taken up in earnest only in the early part of the 20th century and the true nature of its composition and the presence of non-hydrocarbon components could only be determined in the 20th century.

As promised it is time to post the second part of the`petroleum technology series related to the composition of the petroleum. A lot of basic chemistry is also explained in this write-up. Readers will appreciate the complexity of petroleum and the various components that has created this wonderful natural resource and which we should use judiciously so that our future generations are not deprived of it.
