Hi All,

I am interested in the heat capacities of caustic solutions of concentrations up to 90+% NaOH. The resources I have been able to find are limited to concentrations of up to 78% NaOH (such as here: https://www.oxy.com/...oda/caustic.pdf - pg 30).

Is there a reason why this data is not available? Any help or sources with this information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

CR

Not sure. But my guess is solubility limit? I mean if it was 100% NaOH, then it won't be a solution anymore right...

Anyway, whats the purpose of this exercise?

According to the phase diagram of NaOH + Water there are unsaturated liquid solutions well above 78%, they just need to be at high temperatures. The phase diagram can also be found in the source I linked, pg 31.

I am trying to calculate the amount of energy required to bring these higher concentration solutions to their boiling point.
