Hello,
I hope someone can help with this problem I'm facing, I'm a student trying to design a Fluidized Bed Reactor for the Ammoxidation process of Propylene to produce Acrylonitrile.
I'm lost some how and don't know exactly how to start, there are 6 rxns do I have to take them all into consideration to find the pressure drop and the reactor volume?!!!
Also, because of the highly exothermic rxn of ammoxidation, the fluidized bed reactor has cooling coils inside it to cool the reactor down and help control its temp. to prevent run away reactor.... so, how is this cooling coil designed, should I treat it as a usual heat exchanger or does it have it's own design equations?!?!

hi rozan,
I am doing my final project and I also desinging a fluidized bed reactor (solid-gas). Its a Fischer Tropsch high temperature reactor with iron catalyst.
Most of information, like parameters, catalysts information, kinetics and all the particular FT information I got by researching articles...
Its not that difficult, but you gotta know all the theory behind heterogeneous reactions and fluidization...
I think its a good reference for fluidized bed reactors: Introduction to Chemical Reaction Engineering and Kinetics, by Missen
FT got plenty of reactions too, but i did not considered all of them. Get to know how much of those 6 are the most significant to design the reactor...
About the coil, I think you can consider it like a regular heat exchanger...I mean, its not because its inside the reactor that its gonna be different, right?
Good luck.
