I am a chem engr. and your question really is related to mechanical engg. side. But I dont think I really comprehended your question. r u talkin about the mechanical seal of a centrifugal pump! It depends on the type of pump u are using and the process condition.

the selection type sealing of your pump depend pump condition and how much is impotant small leakage and how much money you want to pay?

Also Provide the Condition. Means what pressure at dischare you required? Waht is the temp and flow of water. If it is a low capacity pump dealing with water at almost STP conditions then ordinary seal can be used in keeping scenario of economics also.
