Generally Control Room (CR) is located in an Industrial plant at the centre of the I&C components in the field to reduce field cabling. Other considerations for CR location are safety of operating staff from hazards, like Chemical explosions, toxic gas release, floods etc.
However in Power plants CR is normally kept at higher elevations at the same level as that of Turbine operating floor. Why the CR can not be located at lower elevations so that the operating staff has easy and quick access to other areas of the plant? Whether monitoring/control at Turbine operating floor is so critical for CR operator?

Hi there,
I worked in a company in which there was a separate power house for generating HP steam and electricity. The control room was situated at the same floor where the turbine was. The reason that I was told that, for ease of observation/close monitoring of the turbine. There we did not have cutting edge control systems and u can easily hear any abnormal sound/change in the sound of turbine. The movement of personnel to the turbine area was easy and less timeconsuming. As u know if the turbine trips then how much down time u would have to suffer....
