Hi all,

I was hoping that someone could enlighten me about valve selection (Ball vs. Gate vs. Globe vs. Butterfly, etc...).

More specifically I'm looking to identify pros and cons, throttling requirements, susceptibility to leakage, restrictions due to service (selection based on fluid properties/state), cost, etc...

Also, can we specify TSO (Tight Shut Off) on any type of valve and are some valves better for hazardous service (H2S, CO2, and so on) requiring TSO?

Appreciate any comments.

These are all good references. But these are basic type of valves only. You should try to understand WHY a valve is good for certain servics and characteristics so that when "specialty" valves are presented, you can understand their capabilities and limitiations. A few I can think of are V-port Ball valves Hemi-leptical valves, Quarter-trun Offset valves, just to name a few that try to combine the benefits of the various types basic valves.
