Hi all,
I was looking for some information in API STD 521 and found a reference for sizing tailpipes and laterals based on rated flow.
Actually, I was originally under the impression that laterals and tailpipes were one in the same (single-source piping directly downstream of relieving device).
Yet I came across a information on the other forum (http://www.eng-tips....=146511&page=65) that suggest they are different. I will quote it below,
QUOTE
"Tailpipes to me would be the piping directly downstream of the PSV. The lateral is typically a subheader that collects discharges from various PSVs and routes them into the main flare header.
It's not a hard and fast distinction in my opinion."
In my humble opinion, the above quote is kind of make sense to me, because I can't found in API STD 521 any statement that related with sizing of flare subheader. Is lateral = flare subheader? Please kindly confirm this.
Finally, if someone could offer a description of laterals & tailpipes and also a distinct difference between them , I would appreciate it.
thank you
regards,
bernath
