Hello to everyone,

Dear engineers my professor gave me the task to write 3 pages about Process design, process modelling and simulation of processes. so I'm asking you which books should I use in order to write these 3 pages. It is striclty forbidden to copy articles from internet.

You need hard work to do this job and need study hard, not surface level but indepth. if you have good understanding of engineering fundamentals then, you will not ask like this. you need to write a report and then share it here for expert reviews.
you can start from;
what process is involved for production of any product and next step is modelling of that process this include design paramters and after that is simulation for optimization of product and profitability.

One probably suitable book would be "Pilot plants, models, and scale-up methods in chemical engineering" by R. e. Johnstone and M. W. Thring, McGraw-Hill Book co, 1957; especially the first two chapters.
Another would be "Chemical Engineering, Volume 6, An introduction to Chemical Engineering Design" by R.K. Sinnot, Pergamon Press, 1983 and later. This is the 6th book of "Chemical Engineering" series, started by J.M. Coulson & J.F. Richardson.

Here is the difference.

Problem statement: You want to estimate time required to reach from your home to office

1. Modeling
1.1 Assumptions
1. You stay out of the city in which there won’t be any traffic
2. As you are already out of the city; footpath / walkway is not a problem and hence you’ll be able to maintain your walking speed (let us assume you will walk to office)
3. Any other assumption
1.2 Equations for your system
Time required = speed at which you walk (velocity) * distance traveled between your home and office

2. Simulation
Solve above equation by providing the values for your system i.e. your walking speed is 4 km/hr and distance between your home and office is 2 kms hence time required would be 0.5 hr. You don’t require a simulator for this but then also it is simulation

3. Optimization
You used to start for your office @8:30AM and were able to reach office @9AM but not your office time has shifted to 8:45 AM so you need to optimize (reduce in this case) total time required to travel so
a. You find a short-cut and your travel time reduces to half
b. You convince your boss that you’ll not be able to reach by 8:45 i.e. changing objective function of the optimization itself
c. You buy or rather design a bike / car

4. Design
You know that your design constraint i.e. travel 4 KMS in 15 minutes. Other one would be actually the cost which you can incur for this so based on these constraints rather requirements you design equipment. You can actually use modeling and simulation for this i.e. write basic equations for designing a car and solve them to get actual dimensions of the car. Once you are done with your design you can again optimize your design so that it meets your requirements and you don’t pay extra for this.
