Hi
Anyone knows how to develop cyclone separator in HYSYS simulation. All your help is highly appreciated

Hi Hamidihizami,

Please be specific on what type of cyclone that you refering to

1. Solid-Liquid Cyclone Separator
2. Solid-Gas Cyclone Separator
3. Liquid-Liquid Cyclone Separator
4. Or Just an cyclone for vessel internal

Thank You

Best Regards,

Hi Mr. Erwin,
Sorry for lack information. How to simulate liquid-gas cyclone separator? The bottom outlet is not totally liquid. it will mix between gas and liquid at the bottom outlet. sorry for any inconvenience.

Regards

Hi Hamidihizami,

Best way to do it is to use a separator operation, and to set up the carry over of gas in liquid and also adjust the pressure outlet by adjusting the inlet separator pressure drop.

But to do this you have to assumed what will be the expected gas carry over in the liquid side, as the solid-gas and liquid-liquid hydrocyclone operation in the HYSYS is not made to perform gas-liquid separation. And the based principle of gas-liquid separator is same as separator principle, therefore you can used this to simulate gas-liquid hydrocyclone.

You can't, unless you build your own unit operation that has an empirical equation to estimate the performance. HYSYS itself does not have a unit operation that will predict the physical behaviour of such equipment.

You can use a simple separator operator to "fake" a cyclone, but you have to specify the gas underflow and liquid overflow.
