Dear all

I have simulated gas sweetening absorber using MDEA amine to remove H2S. but I did not get satisfying results. In order to improve my simulation I used Amine package.
I would like to ask you all if Hysys is a suitable simulator to achieve accurate results in gas sweetening case? and if the it is OK, what options are necessary to be considered and activated regarding to gain these results?

Regard

Hi,
As I did simulations for amine sweetening with MDEA as solvent in past, but same as you I ended up with unstaisfactory results. I will recommend you to use Optimized Gas Treating Inc. Pro-Treat, which is a rate based model which can handle MDEA (generic as well activated) with some acceptable errors. With Hysys you can make changes in the column rating tab i.e. the parameters of the column and see the effect/sensitivity. DBR amine package is another option in Hysys if you have license for.

You can ONLY get reasonable results for amine treating in HYSYS using the DBR Amines package (which is basically the thermo from the DBR Amsim program). My experience is that HYSYS with DBR Amines is OK at this, but BR&E ProMax or OGT ProTreat are better. I will note that Protreat can overestimate the water saturation in a gas stream.
