Hi
I am a student of final year Chemical Engineering ... well I am interested to know how to deal with the mechanical design of pressure vessels (vessels subjected to internal pressure and external pressure) .I have no idea about mechanical design since we have no course which is related to Mechanical Design.
I came to know about different heads while searching on google but I have no idea about them, which one is used for which job, there advantages etc etc .. well I will be really greatfully if anyone help me in this regard s

Even i am doing project on design of filter.so is there any1 who can help in design of filters

Regards

Vessel design is a much neglected subject for chemical engineers since it is still considered by many including yours truly the domain of a mechanical engineer. Although I haven't done any mechanical design including vessel thickness calculations I certainly do know where to get the required information specially for a student.

Following are some resources from which you could get the required information:

1. Process Equipment Design by Brownell & Young (this book was part of the prescribed books during my Chemical Engineering undergraduate course)

2. Pressure Vessel Design Manual by D.R. Moss

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

Another good introductory book is "J.M. Coulson & J.F. Richardson, Chemical Engineering Volume 6", Pergamon Press. Only Chapter 13 concerns "Mechanical Design of Process Equipmant" (90 pages), but rest Chapters may be also of interest.
If the filter is a vacuum drum filter, basics of mechanical design could be found in chapter 13.7 "Design of vessels subject to external pressure".

This is a subject I've gone into great detail in prior years in our Forums. If you use our SEARCH feature, you will find the related threads and information therein.

I have never found a better source of design and background information on pressure vessel design than Eugene Megyesy's great and popular classic book, " Pressure Vessel Handbook". I highly recommend you obtain a copy of this book and read it thoroughly. You will find it not only interesting and profitable, but very educational.

Need to Design Filter .Where Polypropylene wound cartridge to be fitted. Would you please help me carrying out the design part. Especially length and Diameter of Shell. Please help me out in performing calculations.Since i know now all the basics .but one or the other hand its not getting solved due to lack of knowledge.
If you don’t mind ,would you please solve it for my sake once.
