Hello,

I am studying in final year of Chemical Engineering..
I am assigned the project; "Case Study and Designing Of Vacuum Distillation Unit"...
I am very much nervous that from where should i start the project....as far as i am concerned my main focus is on designing of the column mainly....Really need help regarding the column internals design and various factors and equipments involved in it ....And i am an average student so kindly neglect my foolish questions... i will be very much thankful if anyone can help me out on this one...

You need a better title than "Final year project!"
I suggest you repost as "Case Study and Designing Of Vacuum Distillation Unit"...
People hate opening posts where they have no idea what the post is about.

Hi

The main difference for vacuum distillation is the need to have vacuum pump or steam ejector at the overhead system. This is to create the vacuum required for the distillation. Other possibility is that you may need to install overhead chiller depending on the dew point of the overhead stream. The others e.g the internal parts such as tray or packing, will be the same as pressurized distillation.

Any text books on distillation which I believe you have a lot of them in the University's library. Website and textbook suggested by BREIZH are good resources.
