Hey,
I was wondering how to calculate the flow rate of nitrogen through a pipe from a tank which is at 80 psig. Here goes the configuration:
Piping is 2" diameter
Piping is about 25 ft long (1 90 degree bend)
A PCV is in the line dropping the pressure to 3 psig after the control valve (valve is 10 ft from the tank on the line)
The nitrogen is discharging into the atmosphere into a bag to puff it up.
What would the flow rate of nitrogen be into the bag?
Thank you

The flow will be slightly less than tha capacity of the pressure control valve.
First of all you need to know the flow coefficient (Cv or Kv-value) of the installed PCV. You can find this value in the manufacturer catalogue.
Remark: delta P is limited to the critical pressure drop
dP is not (80 - 3) psi, but about 80 * 0.5 psi

How u decided the multiplication factor 0.5 ?
so if i have restriction orifice upstream at 80 bar and i want downstream at 10 bar , then do i need to use set of 2 orifices???
pl clarify.

Yes how did you get the 0.5 psi value?

Hey,
Do you know how to estimate the Cv of a PCV? It´s a empirical equation that uses the line diameter....

You need to take into account the pressure loss in the pipe line, the valve pressure drop and the exit pressure as well as exit losses. These all are necessary to determine the flow. If you add an orifice, that also must be considered.
Also, these losses are not linear, but exponential.
My suggestion is to study Crane TP410, or a similar guide, or contact me thru my website, www.ostand.com
