Can anyone please tell me about what splitter really is? how does it work? the advantages and disadvantages of splitter? I tried to search it everywhere but it seems so hard to find an explanation for industrial splitter. thanks.

Component splitters have no meaning in industry, save separating unit operations. For example a component splitter can be utilized to separate H2S from a gas stream. It is obvious that no equipment can do so. Instead a sweetening plant is emploied to carry out the job. To make it short, splitters are some simple artificial unit operations in which a more complex unit operation would be simplified in prelimanry design or where traces of a certain material put the simulation in trouble.
