Hello forum,

I have a weird problem. A clients wants some manufacturers of Ethylene peroxide. I can't find any, better yet, I can't find the substance.

There is a good chance the translation was messed up, but the original demand was "peroxido de etileno".

Can anyone tell what i am looking for?

Thank you.

Organic peroxides play a role (e.g. initiators) in ethylene polymerization to low density polymer, http://www.amazon.co...d/dp/B0008I4910. However only one (not quite clear) reference was found about ethylene peroxide by googling http://hs.e-to-china...nt-d_3-t_1.html, concerning a paint component.
Googling "peroxido de etileno" ("de", not "di") will reveal a lot of information in Spanish, which could clarify the question.
My guess (I do not know Spanish) is that the data of google concerns hydrogen peroxide (H2O2, liquid) or ethylene oxide (CH2OCH2, gas), both used as disinfectants (http://www.cenetec.s...ERILIZACION.pdf), without apparent reference to ethylene peroxide.
So there are three probable interpretations, ethylene peroxide (?), ethylene oxide, hydrogen peroxide. The "ethylene peroxide" may represent the exact translation, but "organic peroxides" have been found, not specifically "ethylene peroxide"; organic peroxides have quite specific uses, see http://en.wikipedia...ganic_peroxide , or http://www.arkema-in...per/Storage.pdf. You may ask Client to clarify intended use (disinfectant?) and state (gas or liquid?) for the compound to be ordered.
Note: CH2OCH2 has wide use as disinfectant in rice (before package), dialysers (artificial kidneys), etc. Probably Client meant "oxido di etileno".

Thank you, Kkala. You are right, most likely they meant ethylene oxide, but i'll have to ask to be sure. It's supposed to be used in an olefine plant, but with what purpose, we\ll see.

Thanks again for a quick reply.

Yes, confirmation is necessary from client. If possible to report cas No (75-21-8 for ethylene oxide) to identify the chemical. I did not know that ethylene oxide, apart from disinfectant, has an important role in organic synthesis (ethylene glycol, etc). http://en.wikipedia..../Ethylene_oxide.

Hello
maybe everything is sorted out but I can only interpet this as your client asks for peroxides in order to produce polyethylene. In order to produce polyethylene from ethylene a initiator is needed just as kkala stats.

Normally in a PE plant (PE=polyethylene) several peroxides are used in order to achieve the desired temperature profile.

The only manufacturer that I,am aware of is Akzo Nobel but I´m sure there are many more

Good luck!
