Hi,
I was wondering if you could guide me with my design project. I am in the starting phase (phase 2) of my design project. I will be designing a Three phase separator and vacuum distillation column for a styrene process (the mass balance, energy balance...was carried out in phase 1).
I was wondering if you could recommend some resources (Books, journals....) regarding the designs. I am particularly looking for material concerning three phase separators (eg. vacuum or atmospheric?) as I have no knowledge of its design and having trouble finding materials. (I have found lots of material regarding column design and I have studied it at university, however I am open to any recommendations regarding this topic too as I have no knowledge of vacuum designs).
I am mainly looking for "I remember reading this book/paper/website, and it was good" suggestions. I am able to do my own research but nothing is more valuable than experience.
Regards,

rosneft,
Refer the following links:
http://www.scribd.co...hase-Separators
http://www.scribd.co...hase-Separators
http://www.scribd.co...08254/styrene-b
For vacuum distillation refer distilllation design books such as :
Distillation Design by Henry Z. Kister
Packed Tower Design and Applications by Ralph F. Strigle, Jr.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Ankur2061, Thank you for your reply and recommendations, the three separator links are very useful. I have already came across the distillation books, great to know I'm on the right track.
Zak, Thank you for the handbook recommendation I am just going through it now.
Many Thanks

Hi,
I have been told I have to design my distillation column before the three phase separator as my group members require my changes to the mass balance as all feeds pass through my distillation column. The column I am designing is C01 (See PFD attached) for the production of styrene using Lummus/UOP SMART.
Due to this I am to consider the water that will enter C01 from the 3 phase separator. Furthermore in the preliminary material balance it was assumed that C01 separated the Ethylbenzene completly, however it is required to set a spec for EB separation in which the bottom product will also include EB. I am thinking of setting this to be 0.5% in the bottoms of C01. My Questions are:
1. What is the industry known values for the water that enters the distillation system from the Three Phase separator, if any?
2. where is this water separated (if any), is this generally separated in C01's condesor using its insolubility or is it separated in C04 from Toluene (toluene-benzene column).
Many Thanks in Advance
