Hello All,
I have a question regarding petroleum refineries, and the cleaning of sludge in their storage tanks. I am working on my senior project and my topic concerns the environmental impacts of a sludge dump site on the Los Cerritos Wetlands. My group and I would like to know what chemicals we should look for when we take our sediment samples to determine whether or not leeching possesses an impact on the surrounding region. Can anybody recommend reliable and distinctive compounds/elements to test for? We think there might also be remnants of solvents in the buried sludge that were used to clean the tanks that we would also like to test for.
Keep in mind the dumping occurred during the 1950's until about the 90's, so possibly consider the methods during different eras and the decaying rates over time.
Thanks!
