Hey its my first post here so I'll just quickly go over a few things about myself. First of all I am a chemical engineering student at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Its my first year and I will be starting coop in the summer so I am currently looking for jobs.

So its reading week for me right now and I am looking to make use of it by learning something new that will look good on my resume when I apply to chemical engineering jobs. So far I know matlab and excel from my current school curriculum, which may or may not be very useful in the workplace. I am looking for some software or programming languages that will be useful in my career. I have already looked into possibly learning Aspen, any other ideas?

wow I thought this was just the normal autocad. Did not realize there was a pipe design variation of this software. Awesome!

So I'm guessing AutoCAD PID/PFD > Aspen in my situtaion.
Any other suggestions?

Some popular software for process design and usually learnt by process engineers are:

1. Aspen HYSYS (general proces simulation software)

2. Aspen Plus (general process simulation software)

3. Honeywell's UNISIM (general process simulation software)

4. Simci/Esscors PRO/II (general process simulation software)

5. CHEMCAD by CHEMSTATIONS (general process simulation software)

6. PIPESIM by Schlumberger for Pipeline and Pipe Networking Simulation

7. PIPEPHASE by Scimsci-Esscor for Pipeline & Pipe networking Simulation

8. OLGA by SPTGROUP for reservoir and pipeline transient simulation

9. ProSIm by ProSim f(general process simulation software)

10. Engineers Aide SINET - general process engineering software for equipment sizing and costing

I can add at least half a dozen more but then you might probably get confused with so much available and the dilemma of choosing which one is right for you.

Regards,
Ankur.
