Hi everyone,

I am working on project where we have relief valve and rupture disc in series combination at the heater outlet (Corrosive service and having solids) for three to four heaters.

I have two questions.

a) We will have to choose type of Rupture Disc from B S & B vendor.
They have two types 1. Forward Acting and 2. Reverse Buckling Discs.
Which one is preferred for this service (upstream of relief valve)?

B) How to specify Manufacturing Ranges for these discs when we have this kind of arrangement?

These heaters are designed for 10 barg. We have specifed RV set pressure as 10 barg. I will specify "SBP" for rupture discs also 10 barg.

Please give me guidance since i am totally accountable for this work.

Thanks and appreciate your inputs.

AJ

aniljani,

Type of selected RD (forward acting, reverse acting) is based on "operating ratio" (the ratio of the maximum system operating pressure to a pressure associated with a rupture disk) of that rupture disk.
Please specify the "maximum system operating pressure", "marked burst pressure", and "manufacturing design range" of the disks which you are being proposed. These information would be helpful for proper RD selection. Also, getting vendor advise can be helpful.
