Hi
I would like to know if there is any manual or RP for manual calculations of Acid Gas Sweetening plant so that i can do it by hand first ( which will help me in building basic concepts) then simulation on HYSYS. Its urgent.

Thanx

Mudassir:

I have done a lot of manual calculations for acid gas removal systems (amine based) in the past. I designed, built, installed, and operated some of these designs. And it was all done with a pad of calculation paper and a slide rule. All the units worked as designed and some of them lasted over 30 years in service.

There are no manuals or “Recommended Practices” for this. You simply apply all the knowledge you are supposed to have studied and mastered in university chemical engineering courses. I also used reference text books and literature as my guide: “Gas Purification” by Kohl and Reisenfeld; the GPSA Engineering Databook; John Campbell’s books on gas purification, etc.

Acid gas systems are nothing new. Read some of my threads on this subject (through the SEARCH engine) and you will become aware that the process has been around since 1933 when R. R. Bottoms patented the process for the Girdler Corporation.

First, i would like to Thanx Mr Art for replying and reffereing me material
I would like to know the method of finding number of trays/stages by Absorbton Factor using graph given in "Acid Gas Conditioning" by R Madox And Campbell is practical one or just estimaton (means can i use those number of trays for practical purpose) and i would also like to know how to calculate efficiency of trays with data such as acid gas composition, amine circulation rate, temperature and pressure of inlet gas and lean amine,so that i can find out length of column.
My Teacher told me to find dia of column by designing vessel with 5 min retention time and 150 micron partical size or use Souders and Brown correlation. which 1 is right approach??
I would also like to know what are other parameters which i have to find in designing a column.
Since I am new in this field, I would appreciate if u can guide me.

Thank you Sir
