Hi,

Do you know of any practical books/sites that describes the process design steps as they are actually practiced in industry. Ideally, it should be something that describes concepts like FEED, FEL, FID and the steps involved in these. I also would like items like PFD, HMB, P&ID, MFD, hydraulics, HAZOP, Cause & Effect, Process Datasheets, etc. to be described and where they fit in the design process and what their function and goal is. There are many books on chemical plant design, but they all seem to be written by university professors who have never worked for an engineering company & so do not get into the actual work process involved in getting a plant designed and built. I also guess there are manuals in large engineering companies that detail this sort of thing, but of course that is kept proprietary?

I hope my request makes sense and would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks very much,
Zos

Zos,

The books closest to practical chemical process design are the following:

Oil & Gas:

"The Oil & Gas Engineering Guide" by Herve Baron

http://www.toblog.fr...aron/livre.html

http://www.readoz.co...mode=true#page1

General Chemical Process Design:

"Process Design & Economics - A Practical Guide" by Gael D. Ulrich and Palligarnai T. Vasudevan

http://www.ulrichvas...n.com/cover.pdf

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

You can download Abhisam's e-learning course on HAZOP (or take it online) if you wish to learn about it.Covers everything about HAZOP with real life animations and videos, also if you take the online test you also get a Certificate of competency in HAZOP.

Thank you very much Ankur and Whit123 for taking the time to reply and my apologies for the slow response - I did not realize anyone had responded until now. Ankur, your suggestions are more what I am looking for right now - the Technip book in particular looks perfect. Whit123, the HAZOP info is more advanced for my purposes right now, but I will file it away for the future. Thanks again to both of you.

Zos,

maybe this could help you on getting real world knowledge. it is a free encyclopedia and it has process descriptions, flow diagrams, KPIs, carbon footprint and technical data for you to look at on chemical process technologies. It also has the location of the existing companies and projects of the processes they present.

it is at base.intratec.us
