Hello, I am a student from argentina and i need help to design a chemical plant to produce acylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) on Polymers plus. What i want is to make the plant so i can have a mass and energy balance. My problem is that i don´t know how which package use and how to especifie the latex and rubber. I have a seriuos problem with the reaction, because I choose emulsion and then the simulator ask for a lot of products he doesnt have in the data base ( I mean for creating theemulsion , like the soap , and the redox reactive, inhibietor and others)

Thanks

mati87ar,

I saw your request earlier. I was hoping someone else could help you, because I knew you might get disappointed with my reply.

I have 33 years experience with 3 companies; 22 years of that has been in latex via emulsion polymerization. I have very little experience with NBR. Most of my experience is with vinyl acetate, acrylic esters, acrylic acids, and styrene.

From my experience, I know of no one in industry that models emulsion polymerization of latex products. Too many components, extreme non-ideal behavior, three phases (gas, liquid, solid) are not uncommon. It is too complex and time consuming and the results have proven not satisfactory or detailed enough. Basically, the rewards do not justify the cost. We use pilot scale studies. As far as I have seen, the only emulsion polymerization models of latex products are done by Universities, and those are highly simplified.

I hope you get a response to your query.

Dear Latexman,

Thank you very much for give me an answer.
This mean I would have to do all my calculations in paper, It takes more time but it`s imposible.
Do you know some software or a good book that can help me to design this NBR Plant. I have to this for my final project.

thanks again,
Matias
