Hii
As part of a pilot project I am to design a flow system for transport of high viscous resin.I want to use an internal gear pump for this purpose. What is the design procedure for gear pumps? what are the various parameters to be considered ? what are the specs needed to be provided for the manufacturer?

operating conditions:

Fluid type : high viscous
Visosity : 1500-1800 cps
density : 1-1.8
max flow rate needed : 1 lit/min

Regards..

You seem to know exactly what you need and what you want. Normally, I would prepare a Data Sheet before contacting a manufacturer or supplier. In this case, where you are dealing with a pilot plant setup, I highly recommend you contact a reliable, internal gear manufacturer with experience and service. I recommend Viking Pumps for this type of application and you can visit them at:

http://vikingpump.com/en/index.html

There, you can click the “Contact Us” button and you will find that they are asking for basically the same information you show. I am sure that if you phone or email them, they will respond immediately and make specific recommendations to your needs and queries. I would enquire about recommendations on alloy(s), need for heating jacket, capacity control, pressure and temperature limitations, contamination prevention, etc., etc.

They should be able to help you right away.

I think you also need to consider the pressure.

Viking pumps comes with internal relief valve to protect downstream equipment. Make sure of your pressure requirements.
