Dear All,

Please guide me regarding separation of SO2 from HCL
Gas at atm pressure & amb temp condition
Gas Composition - 5 ton/day - SO2 & 3 ton/day HCL

There is any process for separation of SO2 gas from HCl gas ?

Hi Jitendraproces;

It is possible to seperate.

HCl and SO2 gas mixture generated fron Thionyl Chlorination.

Multiple absorbers with water as absorbent is one process to get SO2 gas nearly free of Hydrogen Chloride process.SO2 gas can be scrubbed with Caustic Solution .Hydrochloric acid produced may contain Soluble SO2.

Please give your purpose for seperation or in which form of end product you need and also source of gas mixture.

There is also other propretary process available in which HCl and SO2 can e seperated and can be compressed. This is value added Solution.

The easiest separation could be to take advantege of the huge solubility of HCl into water and the limited solubility of SO₂ into water.

So some scrubbing, with a limited amount of bleed, will already do a fair amount of separation.

You will not reach high purity but it will help.

other processes are
1. To separate HCl and SO2 Gas and compressed to get HCl Gas and Liquid SO2. But this is patented process
2. TO scrub HCl gas in water ensuring no HCl gas left out and compressing of SO2 to Liquid SO2. This technology is available commercially.

Liquid SO2 is value added product than Sodium Sulfite-Sulfate.

Dear Sir's,

 

Already we are having  scrubbing system for seperation of So2 ( NaOH)  & Hcl (H2o) from chlorination process.... Can any one give me any other process to seperate the Dry HCL & So2 from thinyl chloride for betterment of our system .........
