Dear all,

I am currently in my third year and my design project involves the industrial production of cinnamaldehyde. My group is supposed to design a plant which produces cinnalmaldehyde as a main product. I would like to ask if any of you have a more detailed information on the manufacturing process because apparently it is rather difficult to find. Through Google we have found out that the aldo condensation process of benzaldehyde is the most commonly used process in the industry. However, it is almost impossible to find more information about the process such as the yield percentage, raw materials and so forth. Therefore, I would like to ask for your assistance, either to give me the information directly or give me a hint on where I can find these informations. Thank you very much in advance.

Thanks for the reply,

It is indeed helpful but only to an certain extent because the information is rather brief. I've tried using Google but the information is all over the place and there more unnecessary information than useful ones. To add to that, my project supervisor said it is better to search for information from books, journals an patents rather than Google because they are less reliable. By the way, can you let me know where did you get this information? So that I can put it in my references section when I use it. Thank you very much.

Hi Teik Hong ,

I tried to find some info in the Kirk Othmer but failed , let you try again .
The reference of the book is "chemical and process design handbook " James Speight -Mac Graw -Hill .
Your supervisor is right ,most probably in the library of your university you should find some data , journals,....

Good luck

Hi,

For design projet such as yours, a good place to start is the patents filed for the process.

Search "Patent cinnamaldehyde production". Shows me that BASF filed a US patent for continuous method of production in 2004.

thanks and regards,

Hi Teik!

I need to do the same kind of project, about cinnamic aldehyde.

Did you get other things about?

Tks
