Dear All,

Natural gas pipeline networks have sectionalising valves and Intermediate Pigging stations as per ASME 31.8. These sections are provided with venting lines for emergency venting.

I have been told that due to high pressure difference the valves on these vents (pressure from 80 barg to atm) tend to open with difficulty and sometimes the gears fail due to the torque requirement. The second jeopardy however, is a design fault.

On the above, I would request all the experts on this forum for suggesting the best feasible configuration of venting system. I am attaching one configuration for reference which instigated this thread. The contention on this is 'if there is an emergency and 1st valve leaks simultaneously'.

Please revert if my thread was not explained properly.

Regards

Neel
