Dear All,

I am looking at litreature availble to me regarding the viscosity & specific heat capacity of NEAT SOAP but couldn't found any concrete refrence and a particular value in cP (centipoise).
This property is needed in order tosize agitator and Neat soap transfer pump.
There is a neat soap storage tank with agitator and submerged steam coil. The outlet of tank is pumped to vaccume dryer and then finally to pellatization.
the only avilable data is the density of the neat soap = 0.88 g/cm³

any help or refrence litreature shall be highly appriciated.

regards,

Mudassar Khalil

Ask the supplier or his principal for the soap for the data. It may be on the MSDS or TDS.

G'day Khalil,

A. There is a good chance that for such as product that I guess is reasonably viscous, its rheology is non-neutonian. That means that its viscosity varies with shear rate so may get higher or lower the harder you mix or pump it. In that case you need to chose a conservative high value to ensure your agitator or pump has adequate power.

B. The viscosity will also vary greatly with temperature. So any viscosity value you find needs to be quoted with a temperature.

C. There might be various products or different molecular weight (depends on the raw materials used to make the neat soap, fat type) all called "neat soap", therefore again be careful about any viscosity value you find.

You can always collect a sample and measure the viscosity in the lab. Then, the temperature and shear rate can be varied according to the window of conditions in the process.

thank you every one for your replies.

@latexman... we have asked from client, the only data they can provide is the density as i ve mentioned in my 1st post. The plant is on shut down that's why nothing is available for sample. i am hoping to get some sample from the parent company of my client.

@dazzler... thank you for such a detailed insight. A good refrence will be much appriciated. I would like to ask that is there any specific kind of codes for such process ?

You should use 10,000 cp (It is only an idea based on my previous study) but, you should make it possible to collect Data from Client....The mentioned figure is enough for safe side design..
