1. How does one calculate the reaction forces on a rupture disc rupturing?
2. When a rupture disc is installed below a relief valve what is the magnitude of the reaction forces?
Thanks

I'm not a piping specialist so I'm not going to attempt to answer your question exactly. I will strongly suggest two references for you.
1. API RP521
2. "Guidlines for Pressure Relief and Effluent Handling Systems", Center for Chemical Process Safety, AIChE
There is a great deal of information in reference #2 on this topic including sample calculations. If you can find someway to buy the book, it comes with a CD with all sorts of relief calculations including reaction forces.
Incidently, if you are going to be involved with relief system calculations, this book is a MUST. It is well worth the $200 or so it cost (especially if you can get the company to buy it for you).
