I am designing rotary drum vacuum filter..i am stuck as i m not not able to get the value of specific cake resistance and filter medium resistance for stearic acid crystals in methanol and there is no experimental data available...how should i proceed??

anvitha12,

What are you processing? Can you provide a brief description of the unit operations for the process including filtration using a rotary vacuum filter?

Regards,

Ankur.

sir,

My project is on Production of Stearic acid. It is produced by fat splitting followed by solvent crystallization( Emery process). Firstly fat is splitted by continuous counter current flow of water, fatty acid mixture (Stearic + oleic acid) obtained with water is sent to a flash column where water is removed. fatty acids are now mixed with methanol and are sent to double pipe chiller (acts as Crystallizer).crystallization occurs at -10oC where stearic acid crystals are formed and oleic acid remains in mother liquor .This mixture is sent to rotary drum filter for separation of stearic acid crystals (product) ..mother liquor is heated to remove methanol and oleic acid is obtained..

anvitha12,

http://www.filtratio...tion/sld004.htm

This to support your query :Filtration under constant pressure . Without data , difficult to perform calculation !
