I have a problem to solve. I have 5 PRV on a scrapper that I receive petroleum in my plant. They were sizing for operational failure (blocked outlet). The set pressure for them is 112,3 psig. I need to relief 5000 m3/h and with this valves I can only relief 4000 m3/h because the build-up back pressure is too high.
My first idea was change the set pressure for a high value (161,5 psig) but I will have to change the spring of the valves and I don't have time for this.
I think about an alternative and I need help about this. As the design pressure for the scrapper is 161,5 psig, if I have an operational failure, the PRV will open at 112,3 psig but as they can't relief all the liquid, the pressure still raise until 161,5 psig. At 161,5 psig the PRV have enough pressure to drain off the liquid.
Can I use this as a guarantee of security for the scrapper ???
Thanks.
