Can someone provide me some references in desulfurization of natural gas through hydrogenation and absorption because i have spent long time in looking for such references yet i have not seen any. I am from the Philippines and i am now doing a ChE plant design regarding steam methane reforming based hydrogen gas manufacturing plant. I really need it ASAP. thanks guys!

Aidy:

If you are a chemical engineering student in the Philippines and studying the desulfurization of natural gas, then you should have access to and study the following text books:

“Gas Purification”; Kohl and Riesenfeld; McGraw-Hill; 1960 and following years;

GPSA Engineering DataBook;

“Gas Conditioning and Processing”; John M. Campbell.

If you need further information on where to obtain or buy these books advise us.

Sir, I was not able to see any website for free downloading of "Gas Purification" by Kohl and Riesenfeld. Can you help me find where to obtain such book. However, I have downloaded the other two books. Thank you very much!

Yes sir I am a Chemical Engineering student from the Philippines and our group is now doing a plant design about H2 manufacturing plant through SMR. And I could not decide what desulfurization technique to use. Also, I need data regarding the other processes in order for me  to do a material balance yet I could not look for any concrete reference. I have spent almost a week looking for any references. :(

What specific desulfurization process are you referring to?   Are you referring to using Hot Zinc Oxide as a desulfurization chemical for removing H2S?  If so, then use the SEARCH machine in our forums to find the threads applicable to this process.

If you are downloading pirated engineering books found in pirate websites, you should stop and become aware of the illegality of such actions.  Do not expect our Forums to sponsor such un-ethical and illegal actions.  You should purchase your engineering books - just like every other student does.  To use illegal, pirated electronic books is to join the ranks of the pirates themselves and that will brand you as an engineer who is willing to steal in order to come out ahead of others.  You will not be trusted by your colleagues or your supervisors and wind up un-employed.

Dear  All

Good day!

In Ammonia plants, producing ammonia using natural gas , natural gas is desulphurized by following methods:

  1. Cold Desulpurization system using Activated Carbon as adsorbent
  2. Hot Zinc Oxide Desulpurization System

The main advantages of using cold desulphurization system are :

  1. Feed Gas need not to be heated  as H2S or lighter organics are adsorption on activated carbon
  2. The activated carbon bed can be regenerated using medium of high pressure steam
  3. No need for injection of hydrogen from back end for conversion of hydrocarbons to H2S
  4. Little chance of metal dusting in primary reformer feed gas coil

The dis-advantages of using cold desulphurization system are :

  1. Adsorption capacity reduces appreciably with presence of heavy hydrocarbons
  2. Loss of activated carbon bed upon regeneration
  3. Damage of primary reformer catalyst in case of slippage
  4. To my knowledge now Calgon and SuitCheme are only catalyst supplier

The main advantages of using hot desulphurization system are :

  1. No chances of sulfur slip
  2. Most wide used now in hydrogen and ammonia industry

The dis-advantages of using hot desulphurization system are :

  1. Feed Gas need to be heated to ~ 400 Deg C before entering into Zinc Oxide Bed
  2. If  heavier organics are present then these must be converted to H2S using CoMo or NiMo bed
  3. Injection of hydrogen from back end for conversion of hydrocarbons to H2S is mandatory after a certain temperature based on inputs of catalyst manufacturer
  4. Topose and Johnson Mathey are good catalyst supplier

Additionally , please refer Catalyst Hand Book bY TW Martin (Well known as ICI catalyst handbook) for additional details

Best regards and God Bless You

Bawal dito yan. Walang magbibigay sa iyo dito.

I think it'd be better if you ask a particular question on the process that you wanna know and I bet some people would gladly give you directions on how to proceed.

The book Chemical Process Technology by Jacob A. Moulijn describes many industrial process including hydrotreating processes like hydrodesulphurization including pressures and temperatures commonly used. Its a very good read.

Sometimes some students just won't listen or heed what they are told by persons trying to help them out.

By using the SEARCH engine, aeidy could easily find the following threads that directly address his/her problem - and do so in great, repeated, detail:

http://www.cheresour...-gas-saturator/

http://www.cheresour...or-h2s-removal/

http://www.cheresour...hot-zinc-oxide/

It is very tiring to keep repeating the same correct answer year after year.........
