Hi all,

 

Could anyone explain the process of  in-breathing and out-breathing in condensate storage tanks due to cooling or heating by weather conditions?

 

How Table A.3—Normal Venting Requirements for Thermal Effects in API 2000 Seventh Edition, annex A, March 2014. was created?

 

What is the influence of  in-breathing and out-breathing in storage tanks to VRU compressor sizing?

 

In our case we have a group of condensate tanks with total volume 2300 m3.

1) Weather changes the tank temperature. Vapor volume is affected by temperature. Components can change phases with temperature.

2) The table in API 2000 was created by a committee. The committee collected data, drew conclusions, and made a table.

3) Vapor recovery unit compressor designer should consider the vapor flow as part of the design basis. 'Normal venting requirements for thermal effects' and 'VRU compressor sizing basis' are not necessarily the same.

Thank you for the answer. In our case thermal breathing of condensate storage tanks is higher in moments than average gas flow from condensate evaporation. So, I try to find a solution for such case.

We are considering about design of Vapor Recovery System for condensate storage tanks. Total volume of the storage is 2300 m3. The average flow rate from condensate evaporation (degassing) is near 20-25 Nm3/hr but in accordance with the API 2000 thermal in-breathing and out-breathing is near 400 Nm3/hr (as for such volume of storage). How to handle with this nuance?
